Congratulations to Karen Jackson - Newberry County Career Center Teacher of the Year!
"The most memorable thing about teaching, for me, are the relationships I build with my students. When I reflect on my teaching career I remember the students' smiles, laughter, struggles, and accomplishments."
HOMETOWN: Columbia
HIGH SCHOOL: Columbia High School
COLLEGE: Winthrop University
YEARS IN EDUCATION: 22
FAVORITE BOOK: Mark of The Lion Series by Francine Rivers
HOBBIES: I love anything to do with the water- swimming, boating, kayaking, stand up paddle boards, etc.
IF I WEREN’T A TEACHER, I WOULD... love to own my own business or be a real estate agent.
FAVORITE PART OF TEACHING: I love working with young people and being surrounded by their energy and optimism. When they learn something new and have success in the classroom it is a sense of accomplishment for them and me.
I love teaching Civil Engineering & Architecture. I have always loved math, drawing residential floor plans, and I was a real estate agent for a few years so this course is near to my heart.
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE TEACHER OF THE YEAR: I work with some of the greatest teachers I have ever known, so to be chosen by them is an honor.
