With fall sports beginning in the School District of Newberry County, all spectators are reminded of the updated safety guidelines.
Summer P-EBT cards to be issued in mid-September
Currently, DSS is asking parents of eligible students to verify the mailing address on file with DSS by August 10th at 5pm on the agency’s DSS Benefits Portal- https://benefitsportal.dss.sc.gov/#/pebt/addressverification . DSS and SCDE asks districts to remind parents and caregivers to check the address in the benefits portal and appreciates school districts in communicating this timely ask to parents through social media channels, parent communications, etc. Each eligible child for P-EBT will receive their own card, so households with multiple eligible children should verify the mailing address for each child. During the last issuance of P-EBT, ten of thousands of cards were returned or undeliverable due to bad or undeliverable addresses.
Approximately 520,000 children qualify for this round of P-EBT as they were eligible for free or reduced-price school meals during the 2022-2023 school year. Verifying the mailing address ahead of time through the portal cuts down on processing times and can help limit delays for eligible families in receiving their cards that contain this one time, lump sum amount of $120.

Again, the issuance process is on time and cards should be expected to arrive by mid-September. Note: calling your local DSS office will not speed up card distribution and address verification for the purposes of P-EBT should be done only on the DSS Benefits Portal https://benefitsportal.dss.sc.gov/#/pebt/addressverification .
Congratulations to Coach Joey Long for being named the Newberry Observer's Readers Choice Best Teacher and Coach. Coach Long teaches physical education at Pomaria-Garmany Elementary School and coaches softball at Mid-Carolina High School. Coach Long was also named the 2023 South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Softball Coach of the Year.

The School District of Newberry County Board of Trustees Special Called Board Meeting on March 13, 2023, will be held at the District Office and open to the public with a limited seating capacity.
Intra-District transfer applications for the 2023-2024 school year can be completed at the Student Services Office located in the District Office at 3419 Main St. The Student Services Office entrance is located on the side next to the Newberry County Career Center. Applications will be accepted from March 13-April 28, 2023, between the hours of 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. All transfer requests will be completed on site. This is approximately a ten minute process.
Due to the threat of high winds that will make the operation of buses unsafe, the School District of Newberry County will release all students one hour earlier than their normal dismissal time. All athletic events and activities are canceled for this evening. Boys and Girls Club will still operate through their normal time.
