Katelyn Heard is new to the Swamp as one of our third grade teachers! She is a recent graduate of Newberry College where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. While at Newberry College, Ms. Heard was active in several organizations and was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. When she is not teaching, Ms. Heard enjoys watching baseball to cheer on the Red Sox and spending time with friends. She is very excited to start her teaching career at Gallman!
Tamara Panton will be teaching 2nd grade at GES this year! She is an international teacher from Jamaica. She has been teaching elementary school for the past seven years. Last year, she was a second grade teacher in Williamsburg County. She is excited to join the Gallman Gator family and is looking forward to working with students, parents, staff, and the community to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become 21st Century citizens!
Mrs. Jackie Holmes is elated to join the Gallman Gator family as a 2nd grade teacher! Mrs. Holmes was born and raised in Richland County. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. She also earned her Masters of Education plus thirty hours in Elementary Education from Clemson University. During her first ten years in education, she was a kindergarten teacher, second and third grade teacher, and a Chapter One Reading and Math Coach for first-fifth grades. For twenty-eight years, she taught kindergarten in Newberry County between Speers Street Elementary School and Newberry Elementary School. She was fortunate to retire with after 33 years of teaching in December of 2013. Mrs. Holmes considers herself a lifetime learner. She is extremely excited to come out of retirement due to her passion for teaching. She is elated to become a member of the Gallman Gator family, where students are first and where we will all learn and grow together!
Nicki Doremus is excited to join the Gallman Gator family as a first grade teacher! She is very passionate about teaching and believes that teaching is not just her job, it’s her passion! She is from Orangeburg, SC. In 2000, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and has been teaching Kindergarten for 19 years! Mrs. Doremus has a daughter, Emma Grace, who is 12 years old. Mrs. Doremus is looking forward to continuing her career at Gallman Elementary!
Quaman Burton will be joining us in the Swamp as an Instructional Assistant in one of our Special Education classrooms. He graduated from Newberry College where he also played basketball for the Wolves. In addition to working in the Swamp, he is the CEO of a new cleaning company called, “Q’s Quality Cleaning.” He is looking forward to a fantastic year!
Cassandra West will be joining the Gator family as an Instructional Assistant in the Primary Montessori classroom. She was born in a small town in North Carolina and has always valued the closeness of a small community. She knew from an early age that she wanted to work with children. In 2007, she earned an Associate’s degree from Tri-County Community College in Murphy, NC. In 2012, she married her husband, Jasen, and relocated to Newberry. Mrs. West also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Psychology. She teaches Psychology course at Piedmont Technical College. She has worked for several years as an Instructional Assistant in a Montessori class at Boundary Street Elementary. Mrs. West has two daughters, Sydney and Lauren. Cassandra West enjoys spending time with her family, spending time outdoors, and cheering on the Gamecocks. She is looking forward to being a part of the GES family!
Sharon Williams will be teaching 4th grade Science and Social Studies at Gallman Elementary School. Ms. Williams was born and raised in Newberry, went to school in Newberry and graduated from Newberry High School. Ms. Williams went on to graduate from Newberry College with her BA in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and earned her Master's of Education from Southern Wesleyan University. She has one daughter, Heather Davenport and a son-in-law, Dustin Davenport. Ms. Williams retired from Gallman Elementary in 2018 and is excited to return to her Gator family for another great year in the swamp!
Penny Wright will be the new receptionist at Gallman Elementary! She has worked previously in the Newberry area at mental health, behavioral health, DSS, and she has worked as a Pre-K teacher. She loves helping and working with others and considers herself to be a “people person”. She is excited to join the Gallman Gator family!

Online registration for the 2019-2020 school year is now open! All returning students should have received a snap code in order to register your student. The snap codes were sent home in May (we also mailed the snap codes on July 8). Let us know if you have any questions!
